Barangay Maybunga
The farthest barangay from the Poblacion, Maybunga became a Barangay in 1976 when settlers secured a donation from claimants of the land where Maybunga is now located. In the early days of its history, the barangay was haven for landless farmers in search of fertile land to till. The number of households grew dramatically, reaching more than a hundred at one time.
But when the communist insurgency rocked most parts of Samar Island in the 70s and 80s, Maybunga became a hot spot. Some armed encounters between government forces and the rebels happened in the area. Soon its population thinned to what it is now, which is more than 20 households.
